Its Just Not Fair

Its just not fair. I know life isn’t fair. But then why do i sometimes feel like it should be? How come i still fall victim to thinking that things are supposed to just all line up  and my hard work should pay off today, or somehow the world is serving me another cold dish of injustice?

now this is not something i’ll happily admit to. it doesn’t serve me, but sometimes you just gotta vent… and im sure sometime down the road i’ll refer back to this for the lesson learned… because that is what matters after all.

But im a singer songwriter producer, so its not all bad.

the lesson learned is the thing i wish to share with you all.

DIY Artist/Musician – Skills Development

As a singer-songwriter and music maker paving a bold path in the new music business, I have identified the specific sets of skills and areas of management for my professional career.

For the sake of keeping things simple, a personal philosophy and a highly effective way of being more productive I believe, I have broken down the facets and skills into two high level categories, under which the specific skills i have chosen to strengthen and master according to my talents and my goals.

Not everyones selling shovels!

I know it gets hard to stomach sometimes… Dodging dodgy marketers, reading salesy review posts written by seo copywriters from india, everyone seemingly out to get your cash, writing blogs on how to make money blogging.. ENOUGH.

Well i wanted to inspire you today and say, HEY, someones still here for you! Sharing honest to goodness content on the stuff he’s passionate about to help you out. Not a lot to this post today, but hopefully did the job and put a smile on your face!

Have a Great Day!

LinkBuilding Quick Tip – Soundclick

Hey guys, just a practical, bite sized, link building quick tip…

As you hopefully understand by now, anchor text links are one of the most powerful factors for influencing your rankings and showing up for your keywords at the top of the SERPS.

One easy and effective way you can get good links is by utilizing the web properties you already own or occupy.

Soundclick, for example, is an artist community, one of the originals by the way, and they offer a free blog for members.

By posting a blog and and using the anchor text html code with a relevant keyword linking back to a page you want to get ranked for, you can easily build a valuable link that won’t cost you much time, effort, and is free.

Seriously Gotta Get Over Yourself

One thing i’ve noticed about songwriters, artists, musicians, is that we’re mostly a disfunctional people.

Not only that but we have fairly large ego’s. Again, i say we, because i fit the bill too… However i’ve learned that around most other music makers this is a fine and generally accepted attitude.

But look, and you might not like it, but im going to tell it like it is… I think once you are really able to get over this slighly irrational arrogance, you will understand that although you are gifted and talented… Thinking about your music like a business in terms of the actual value you are providing to people, may need to be assessed.

Artist Development Goals

Its a powerful and valuable thing-in my experience to write your goals down. It is a much better method for getting somewhere, and a worthwhile exercise. In addition to my ongoing regiment, my artist development goals are focal points aimed at refining my talent and professional crafts as a singer songwriter producer.

I figured id post this up as a more of a “publicized” journal entry, and hopefully it will be useful to someone at some point in their development.

Never Hesitate

I almost hesitate to write this post, because it’s slightly off my general topics of music marketing, the home studio, building your online presence, etc. But the fact that i almost hesitated to write this, is very ironic and has to do with the main point of the post, so i hope that means it will be a useful lesson for you today.

I learned this in the Army, and i’ve had to learn how to apply it to making music and creating content.

You know that twinge of doubt, that slightly fleeting moment of question about whether or not to proceed with something, whether it be a blog post, an action, a decision of any kind really…?

Digital To Analog Conversion

Digital to Analog Conversion is the reverse process of the  Analog to Digital Conversion. (Read up on Analog to Digital conversion.)

In summary, the binary numbers of digital audio are translated back into an analog signal. A DAT machine, MO Drive, sampler, compact disk and DVD recorder, all use the same conversion process. Used in a digital audio workstation, the translation from your hard disk is very accurate. It is resistant to errors (i.e. tape hiss, distortion, etc.) that converting to tape is prone to have. This makes digital audio conversion from hard disk the most convenient method for converting an accurate translation. However, it is important to mention that the sound quality of any of these methods of conversion is primarily based on that of the Digital/Analog Converter.

Mastering Software

Mastering software is used in the process of audio mastering.
Mastering is the process of editing the final stereo waveform. Mastering software is used during the final phase of editing a two-channel waveform of digital audio. Structuring the songs of an album into a desired order, balancing frequencies, placing pauses in between songs, and burning a master copy to disk are all apart of audio mastering. Professional music editing software offers powerful tools for editing a digital audio waveform using compression, expansion, limiting, equalization, and many others – plus support for many third-party plugins. Signal and audio effects processors, are the tools used for polishing your song into a tonally balanced, commercial product.

Sampling Rate and Bit Depth

In home recording and music production you will need to know and understand the terms sampling rate and bit depth, here is a quick primer…

Analog to digital converters are used to sample an analog signal for recording. The rate at which the converter measures the waveform for each second of sound is called the sampling rate.

As a rule of thumb: the higher the sampling-rate the better. This means that the more samples that are taken per second, the wider the frequency response of the recording will be. Simply put, the higher the sampling-rate, the more clarity and detail will be captured on each track.
