Artist Development Takes Time

And… probably a lot more than you think.

There is an inherent process to learning any and everything. Generally there is no RIGHT or WRONG way.

BUT The only WRONG way, is the one that doesn’t allow the flexibility for you to make mistakes and be WRONG at times.

It is important for you to ENCOURAGE yourself for accepting the challenge and pushing yourself to get to the next level in your artist development, whatever that may be.

Whether that’s as you develop on the business aspect of things, or as you grow as an artist,  songwriter, producer, or musician. BOTH are a necessary part of Artist Development.

Waiting For The Curtains to Roll Back

One of the hardest things i struggle with sometimes is the fact that forging my path, on my own, is a path that must be walked in solitude until the platform and structures are built. Which must be done by hand.

There’s always all this talk about if you just “believe” and put trust in “god” or the “universe” and take a stand for something you are passionate about and on every level feels right… Then all the sudden. the curtains pull back, and the team that was anxiously awaiting you to just SAY THE WORDS, instantly rushes in to aid you and resupply you with the essentials to finish the job.

Importance of Vibe

The Importance of Vibe.

They say “the song vibe” is everything in a song. Well they’re right. The vibe is that special uniqueness that resonates underneath the message of the song, lyric, and harmony. Underneath that is the vibe of the people, which effects the “vibe” of the music and environment.

As musicians, we don’t “pick up” the vibe… We deliver it. Remember that.

Learn how to positively effect the quality of content you produce, by positively effecting the VIBE YOU are in.

What is the one thing that will effect our performance and material content more than any other single factor?

VIBRATION effects the state of being that we are in, the state of being we are in effects the quality of content we produce.

Inspiration for Musicians

Songwriters, musicians, artists, entrepreneurs all have relationships with their muse in one way or another… Inspiration for musicians is an elemental component of what we do. In using inspiration and motivation to spring us into action we can get ourselves to follow through and actually complete all of our projects.

As a singer songwriter producer and an entrepreneur, i’ve learned that both inspiration and disciplined follow through are at the heart of what its all about.

Its getting things done – that get results. Getting results = knowledge and experience = better results.

Getting things done is about staying motivated, or even better, inspired.

Inspiration and motivation will help result in whats ultimately most important… Follow through.

YOU Are The Best New Artist

The best new artist is not easily quantified. “Best new artist” is a generic phrase for a category at the grammy awards… While this phrase is almost synonymous with the the award, who’s really to say who the best new artist is.

However, in this day and age I propose the best new artist is something  fundamentally different than the award presented at the Grammys.

The when it all comes down to it, our society has evolved into one that is instantly and globally connected. Music, and the new music business, has changed forever. This is not a discussion directly related to the status of the music industry… Rather, it is a snapshot into the future for music makers, songwriters, and musicians.

Take Regular Breaks

It can be hard to get up sometimes… You feel like you won’t remember where you left off, like you won’t be satisfied if you don’t push a little harder and hammer it out. Listen. DON’T get STUCK. Get up and take regular breaks. Your mind and your body will thank you.

One thing i used to think, is that if i hammer it out and just keep pushing, that the right melody, the right lyric, the right sound, the right take is just around the corner.

But by this time i’ve already pushed myself to hard as it is… and its just, time to take my mind off of it, take a break, go on a walk, just zoom out a bit.

Its Just Not Fair

Its just not fair. I know life isn’t fair. But then why do i sometimes feel like it should be? How come i still fall victim to thinking that things are supposed to just all line up  and my hard work should pay off today, or somehow the world is serving me another cold dish of injustice?

now this is not something i’ll happily admit to. it doesn’t serve me, but sometimes you just gotta vent… and im sure sometime down the road i’ll refer back to this for the lesson learned… because that is what matters after all.

But im a singer songwriter producer, so its not all bad.

the lesson learned is the thing i wish to share with you all.

Not everyones selling shovels!

I know it gets hard to stomach sometimes… Dodging dodgy marketers, reading salesy review posts written by seo copywriters from india, everyone seemingly out to get your cash, writing blogs on how to make money blogging.. ENOUGH.

Well i wanted to inspire you today and say, HEY, someones still here for you! Sharing honest to goodness content on the stuff he’s passionate about to help you out. Not a lot to this post today, but hopefully did the job and put a smile on your face!

Have a Great Day!

Jamie

Never Hesitate

I almost hesitate to write this post, because it’s slightly off my general topics of music marketing, the home studio, building your online presence, etc. But the fact that i almost hesitated to write this, is very ironic and has to do with the main point of the post, so i hope that means it will be a useful lesson for you today.

I learned this in the Army, and i’ve had to learn how to apply it to making music and creating content.

You know that twinge of doubt, that slightly fleeting moment of question about whether or not to proceed with something, whether it be a blog post, an action, a decision of any kind really…?

How To ‘Unleash’ Your Talents?

Guest Blog: By Bob Baker

Let’s talk about artist empowerment — one of my favorite topics lately …

Not long ago I presented one of my first Unleash the Artist Within workshops. While promoting the event, I discovered that different people have different interpretations of what it means to “unleash” themselves as an artist.

Many people assumed at first that the workshop was about developing your creativity, along the lines of Julia Cameron’s book, “The Artist’s Way.” Some of what I talk about does relate to giving yourself permission to create and feeling worthy to do so, but my definition of “unleash” is more far-reaching than that.

What do I mean by “Unleash the Artist Within”? Well, I believe that to be a successful musician, you must be willing to …
